Biography

The USS Napa was a Haskell-class attack transport laid down on June 7, 1944 and commissioned on October 1, 1944. It served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, participating in several key operations, including the Battle of Iwo Jima. The ship was awarded one battle star for its service in World War II.

During the Battle of Iwo Jima, the USS Napa was involved in transporting troops and supplies. On February 21, 1945, it was hit by a Japanese aircraft and later rammed by the USS Logan, but it continued to serve throughout the war.

After the war, the USS Napa was decommissioned on March 18, 1946. It was subsequently placed in the Pacific Reserve Fleet. The vessel was redesignated Amphibious Transport (LPA-157) on January 1, 1969. In 1983, the USS Napa was scrapped, marking the end of its service life.
