Biography

The USS Los Angeles (CA-135), a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser, was laid down on July 28, 1943; launched August 20, 1944; and commissioned July 22, 1945. The USS Los Angeles did not see combat in World War II but was actively involved in post-war operations in the Far East, arriving at Shanghai, China, on January 3, 1946. It was decommissioned on April 9, 1948, but recommissioned on January 27, 1951, to support American efforts in the Korean War.

During the Korean War, the USS Los Angeles provided significant gunfire support, participating in key battles and earning five battle stars. It also played a crucial role in the Quemoy-Matsu Crisis in 1958. The ship underwent modifications in 1954 to deploy the REGULUS I guided missile system and made several deployments to the Western Pacific until its final decomissioning on November 15, 1963. The vessel was scrapped on May 16, 1975.
