Biography
The 77th Infantry Division played a significant role in World War II, participating in multiple Pacific campaigns including Guam, Leyte, and Okinawa. Landing in Guam on July 21, 1944, the division fought in its first combat action, helping to recapture the island and suffering over a thousand casualties. The division later participated in the liberation of Leyte in the Philippines and the Battle of Okinawa, where it made 15 landings to secure Kerama Retto and Keise Shima, and engaged in bitter fighting on Ie Shima.
