Biography

The USS Hancock (CV-19) was commissioned on April 15, 1944, and played a significant role in several Pacific Theater campaigns during World War II. She participated in operations in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Japan, earning four battle stars for her service. Despite being damaged by an explosion in January 1945 and a kamikaze attack in April 1945, the Hancock continued to contribute to the war effort, with her aircraft destroying 723 enemy planes and sinking 48 enemy ships before Japan's surrender.
