Biography

The HIJMS Yamato was the lead ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Yamato-class battleships. Commissioned in 1941, she saw limited action due to Japan's shift toward carrier-based warfare but was ultimately sent on a suicide mission during Operation Ten-Go in 1945, where she was sunk by U.S. aircraft.
