Biography

During World War II, the USS Harder (SS-257) was a Gato-class submarine known for its aggressive and successful patrols in the Pacific. Commanded by Commander Samuel D. Dealey, Harder sank numerous Japanese warships, including five destroyers in just one patrol, earning the nickname “Hit ’em again, Harder.” She was lost in August 1944 during her sixth war patrol, likely sunk by depth charges near the Philippines.
