Biography

The Japanese aircraft carrier Chūyō was a converted passenger liner used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Commissioned in 1943, she primarily served as an aircraft ferry and escort carrier. Chūyō was sunk by the American submarine USS Sailfish in December 1943, resulting in heavy loss of life, including many U.S. POWs aboard.
