Biography
The 1st Marine Division was formed in 1941, becoming the first American ground unit to launch an offensive against Japanese forces, most notably during the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. The division went on to fight in several major campaigns, including Battle of Cape Gloucester and Battle of Peleliu, enduring some of the harshest jungle and island combat conditions of the war. Known for its toughness, discipline, and resilience, the 1st Marine Division earned numerous commendations and helped establish the reputation of the U.S. Marine Corps as an elite fighting force.
