Biography
The USS Heywood (APA-6) was an attack transport that was originally launched as a civilian vessel before being acquired by the U.S. Navy. Throughout the war, the USS Heywood transported thousands of Marines and soldiers into contested beachheads, often under threat of enemy fire, helping establish footholds for advancing Allied forces.
