 Organization

Biography

The USS Steele (DE-8) was an Evarts-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy that served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Commissioned in 1943, the vessel conducted convoy escort, anti-submarine warfare, and patrol operations throughout the South and Central Pacific, operating in areas including the Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands, Mariana Islands, Palau Islands, and the Philippines. USS Steele helped protect Allied shipping and supported amphibious operations by screening convoys and hunting enemy submarines. The ship also participated in patrols supporting the invasions of Peleliu and other campaigns in the western Pacific. Following the end of the war, Steele returned to the United States and was decommissioned in November 1945.
