Biography

SS Howell Lykes was an American cargo vessel operated by the Lykes Brothers Steamship Company during World War II. Built in 1940, the ship served in Allied merchant shipping operations, transporting military supplies, equipment, and cargo in support of the war effort. In 1942, the vessel was transferred to the British Ministry of War Transport and renamed Empire Pintail, continuing service in Allied logistics and convoy operations for the duration of the war.

Abstract

The L.B. Hardy Papers contain records, training materials, publications, photographs, maps, and ephemera documenting the World War II service of L.B. Winfred Hardy in the United States Army Air Corps, as a Private First Class and radio operator with the 398th and 421st Bomb Squadrons of the 504th Bomb Group.
