Biography
First Class Fire Controlman Earl Malcolm Stiefel was born on August 8, 1918, in Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, to George Washington Stiefel and Harriet “Hattie” Newton. On September 2, 1940, Mr. Stiefel married Mary Elizabeth Cox in Winchester, Virginia. With the war still raging, Mr. Stiefel was drafted into the United States Navy and assigned to the USS West Virginia on May 16, 1944. First Class Fire Controlman Stiefel was honorably discharged from the United States Navy on December 12, 1945. He passed away on September 26, 1998, in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
