Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Edgar “Mac” McElroy (March 24, 1912 – April 4, 2003) was born and grew up in Ennis, Texas. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet program and was first stationed in Pendleton, Oregon, flying B-25 Mitchells with the 37th Bomb Squadron of the 17th Bomb Group. He was chosen for the Doolittle Raid and flew as the pilot of the thirteenth B-25 to launch from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet on April 18, 1942. McElroy retired on July 1, 1962, after serving for 22 years.
