Younghans, Frederick C., 1921-2008
Biography
Lt. Frederick C. Younghans (1921-2008) was a pilot of PV-1 and PV-2 aircraft in the U.S. Navy, serving in multiple patrol bombing squads, including VPB-199, VPB-200, and VPB-133. Lt. Younghans trained and served domestically from October 13, 1941, to December 15, 1944. He was deployed overseas in December of 1944 and traveled aboard the U.S.S. Putnam to Naval Air Station Kaneohe, then to Naval Air Base Tinian. While at NAB Tinian in VPB-133, he participated in the strike against Truk on April 30, 1945, flew patrols and searches over Iwo Jima and Peleliu, and flew cover over Rota during peace negotiations in August of 1945. Lt. Younghans separated from the U.S. Navy following the end of the war on November 30, 1945.
