Biography

Clarence C. (Carroll) Karcher served in the United States Army during World War II. He attended Texas A&M University when his Advance ROTC unit was drafted and deployed to the Pacific Theater. During the war, Karcher was stationed in the Philippines and was later sent as a part of the American Division during the occupation of Japan. He was part of the first Waterborne Division that entered Japan after the surrender.

The Clarence Karcher Collection, 1942-1946, includes over 500 photographs, negatives, postcards, a service prayer book, a military identification card, a pay schedule book, a diary, a scrapbook, and three large photographs. These items are all related to Clarence Karcher's experience in the Pacific during World War II, specifically in the Philippines and during the Japanese occupation.
