Biography
Charles Henry Nimitz, 1826-1911, was the grandfather to Chester W. Nimitz. Born in Germany and the son of a merchant seaman, Nimitz and his family immigrated to South Carolina in the early 1840s. Later, the Nimitz family became a part of the Adelsverein colonization experiment in the newly annexed state of Texas. In 1852, he built the Nimitz Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas.
