Scope and Contents
This series contains post-war writings, publications, and reference materials related to Richard E. Bennink’s World War II service and broader U.S. Marine Corps history. It includes Bennink’s accounts of transporting troops aboard the USS Heywood during the invasion of Guadalcanal, as well as materials on the invasion of Iwo Jima, the 5th Marine Division, and Marine barracks at Pearl Harbor. Also present are a pamphlet from the Hawaii Military Appreciation Week Opening Ceremony (May 12, 2000), obituaries and related documents for Herman Abady, Alexander A. Vandegrift, William McKelvy, and William Whyte, a history of the Third Battalion, First Marine Division, and various related articles.
