Photographs of Sugamo Prison and Prisoners, 1946 - 1948
Scope and Contents
This folder contains photographs of prisoners and prison facilities at Sugamo Prison during the postwar occupation period. The images depict groups of prisoners walking, sitting, and socializing outdoors within the prison grounds, often wearing robes, coats, hats, blankets, or other cold-weather clothing. Several photographs show prisoners gathered near prison buildings, benches, and trees within the compound. Two photographs include Hideki Tojo walking with unidentified prisoners. Additional images document the prison complex itself, including exterior views of prison buildings, perimeter walls, the theater building roof, and the gallows building.
