Scope and Contents
This folder contains issues of Mate Slate. Included are Volume 1, Number 1 (April 20, 1945), a special edition, and issues numbered 2-68 (August 8 - November 7, 1945), with some issue numbers missing. The newsletters document battalion life during and immediately after the Battle of Okinawa and the end of World War II. Contents include world news summaries, camp and battalion announcements, sports reports, religious service schedules, movie programs, discharge information, promotions, good conduct awards, civil readjustment notices, and recreational activities. Many issues feature cartoons by Andrew J. Blair. The Special Edition includes a map of the 147th Naval Construction Battalion camp on Okinawa.
