Religious Service Programs, April 16, 1944 - October 9, 1945
Scope and Contents
This folder contains mimeographed Protestant, Catholic, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, communion, and divine service programs created for U.S. Navy Construction Battalion personnel serving in the Mediterranean Area, Marseille, France, and later Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands. Most programs include complete orders of worship, scripture readings, hymns, prayers, sermons, and announcements led by Navy chaplains, including J.T. Burns, S.O. Price, Charles C. Butler, L.H. Pederson, James H. Underwood, and Robert J. White. Many identify Andrew J. Blair as organist or assistant chaplain and feature his original cover illustrations. Also included are Thanksgiving worship and meal programs, a Memorial Day service, a memorial service honoring four sailors killed aboard LST-3, a Gala Galley event program, a Month of the Holy Rosary divine service program, and a graphite design sketch for a proposed chapel cover.
