Scope and Contents
The Cecil Brown, Jr. Collection, 1939-1994, contains letters, photographs, military documents, manuals, reunion programs, newspaper clippings, and a scrapbook. These materials are related to his service in the United States Marines during World War II. During this time, he served in American Samoa, Guadalcanal, New Zealand, and Tarawa and was wounded in Saipan. The collection contains fifty-six letters, over one hundred photographs from a parade in La Jolla, California, and from his travel while at war, many military documents such as duty lists, roosters, and newsletters, two manuals dealing with Japanese soldiers, two reunion program, newspaper clippings, newsletters, shooting cards, and a scrapbook that contains additional letters, newspaper clippings, military documents, and photographs.
