Biographical / Historical
Charles Powell Trotti, Jr. was born on April 28, 1926, in Tuxpam, Mexico. The family later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Charles P. Trotti, Jr. remained. His nickname from his family members would be "Sunny."
Charles Powell Trotti Jr. was a Medical Navy Corpsman who served in San Francisco and on the island of Midway in 1944-1945, two years after the main battle for Midway. He received his Certificate of Graduation from the United States Navy Hospital Corps as a Hospital Apprentice, Second Class, on December 10, 1943, in San Diego, California.
During his time at Midway, Charles Trotti and his family exchanged numerous letters. His sister, Clerabelle Trotti, worked at the United States Coast Guard Station in Biloxi, Mississippi. At the same time, his brother Jefferson Davis "Buster” Trotti served in the Merchant Marines and traveled extensively across the country, from Galveston, Texas, to Charleston, South Carolina. Meanwhile, Charles's parents remained in San Antonio, where his father was employed at one of the airfields. Charles also received letters from his friend Shirley, a student at Rice University in Houston, Texas, during that time. In one of his letters, Charles mentioned Ruth, who later became his wife.
Upon completing his service, Trotti was discharged from the Navy at the Camp Wallace Separation Center in Galveston County, Texas. He corresponded with the Veterans' Administration into the 1950s. Later, Trotti married Ruby before passing away on December 6, 2013.
