Harold G. Bishop Collection
Scope and Contents
The Harold G. Bishop Collection contains aerial reconnaissance photographs of Hiroshima-shi, Kure-shi, and other locations in Japan, photographs of the F-13 "Poison Ivy" and its crew, and photographs of the Post Photographic Squadron. The reconnaissance photographs were taken before and after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and the air raids on Kure. Other reconnaissance photos were taken during or after incendiary raids or air strikes on Osaka, Nino-Shima, and Hiroshima, Japan. The collection also includes several clippings, particularly about the war in Europe, and magazines published for servicemen.

Biographical / Historical
Harold G. Bishop served in the Army Air Force during the Pacific War and may have flown on the F-13 "Poison Ivy", a Boeing Superfortress that was reoutfitted as a photographic reconnaissance aircraft and assigned to the 3rd Photo Reconnaissance Squadron. The Poison Ivy was lost and some or all its crew were killed after a total engine failure caused the plane to crash near Hagåtña, Guam during a test flight on June 8, 1945.
