Abstract

The Nicoll F. Galbraith Sr. Papers consist of a diverse range of materials documenting Colonel Nicoll F. Galbraith Sr.’s experiences as a prisoner of war during World War II, his recovery, and his post-war life. The collection includes photographs, journals, correspondence, military records, scrapbooks, ephemera, and digital materials, providing a detailed account of Col. Galbraith’s time in captivity and his subsequent return to civilian life.

Included within this folder is a scrapbook compiled by Col. Galbraith while he was a prisoner of war. The scrapbook contains ephemera collected while he was imprisoned, such as labels from the Red Cross, cigarettes, ketchup, sugar cubes, pills, face cream, and other products; as well as stamps. Located by the majority of each ephemera are handwritten descriptions of the item.

Included within this folder are loose scrapbook ephemera, which includes labels with handwritten notes about the Philippine Army and various rumors from the war. Additionally, it holds Japanese cigarette packets, prisoner of war canteen tickets, and assorted Japanese labels.
