The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier commissioned on May 3, 1975, and serves as the lead ship of its class in the United States Navy. Named after Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the Nimitz has played a critical role in numerous military operations, including the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and operations in the Persian Gulf.
