Biography

Camp Pendleton is a major United States Marine Corps base located along the southern California coast between Los Angeles and San Diego. Established in 1942 during World War II, the base was named after Major General Joseph Henry Pendleton, who had long advocated for a West Coast Marine training facility. Covering more than 125,000 acres, Camp Pendleton became one of the largest Marine Corps training bases in the United States. During the war, it served as a crucial center for preparing Marines for combat in the Pacific Theater through infantry, amphibious assault, and artillery training.
