Scope and Contents

The Larry Watson Collection contains two photographs and a historical record pertaining to SSgt. Larry Watson and his service in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to December 15, 1945. The photographs depict Larry Watson alone and a group photograph of the 947th Platoon of the Marine Corps. The historical record provides information regarding the Second Separate Laundry Platoon, including summaries of the platoon’s activities and service command from its activation on January 9, 1944, to its disbandment on December 15, 1945; diagrams and photographs of the platoon’s facilities; and attached servicemember information.

Biographical / Historical

Larry Watson, 1917-1981, was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was attached to the 947th Platoon in 1943 and later served as an engineer for the Second Separate Laundry Platoon. The platoon was activated at Camp Elliott, California and received mobile laundry training in Pomona and Camp Pendleton, California. The platoon was attached to the 4th Marine Division and reported for duty in Oahu on March 5, 1944, before receiving a permanent station at Camp Maui, Hawaii, on April 5, 1944.
