Biography
Humble Oil and Refining Company was an American petroleum company incorporated in Texas in 1911. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company engaged in the exploration, production, refining, transportation, and marketing of crude oil and petroleum products. Humble became one of the largest oil companies in Texas and played a significant role in the development of the state's petroleum industry during the twentieth century.
In 1919, the company became affiliated with Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, later known as Exxon. Humble operated extensively throughout Texas and the Gulf Coast region and was particularly associated with the development of major oil fields, refinery operations, and petroleum distribution networks. In 1973, Humble Oil and Refining Company formally adopted the Exxon name, becoming part of the corporate identity that would eventually form ExxonMobil.

The Arick Family Collection is a collection of letters, photographs, work documents, and memorabilia relating to Millard B. Arick, his wife Lucille, and their daughter Ann. Much of the material in this collection relating to Millard consists of work documents pertaining to his employment with the Humble Oil & Refining Company in McCamey and Midland, Texas, as well as his employment with the Standard Oil of New Jersey in Venezuela.
