Biography
Standard Oil Company (New Jersey), commonly known as Jersey Standard, was an American petroleum company incorporated in New Jersey in 1882 as part of the Standard Oil Trust established by John D. Rockefeller. Following the dissolution of the Standard Oil Trust in 1911 pursuant to a U.S. Supreme Court decision, Standard Oil Company (New Jersey) emerged as the largest successor company.
Headquartered in New York City, the company engaged in petroleum exploration, production, refining, transportation, and marketing on a global scale. During the twentieth century, Jersey Standard expanded internationally and became one of the world's largest integrated oil companies. The corporation maintained ownership interests in numerous domestic and foreign subsidiaries, including Humble Oil and Refining Company in Texas.
In 1972, Standard Oil Company (New Jersey) adopted the corporate name Exxon Corporation. Through subsequent mergers and acquisitions, Exxon became part of Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) in 1999.

The Arick Family Collection is a collection of letters, photographs, work documents, and memorabilia relating to Millard B. Arick, his wife Lucille, and their daughter Ann. Much of the material in this collection relating to Millard consists of work documents pertaining to his employment with the Humble Oil & Refining Company in McCamey and Midland, Texas, as well as his employment with the Standard Oil of New Jersey in Venezuela.
