Biography

Thomas Ross Cooley (1893–1959) was a U.S. Navy officer who reached the rank of Vice Admiral. He distinguished himself as commanding officer of the battleship USS Washington during the Mariana Islands campaign and later as Commander, Battleship Division Six during the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After the war, he served as Commander, U.S. Fourth Fleet and Commandant, Naval Station Newport, completing his career as Deputy Commander, Western Sea Frontier.
