Marine Aircraft Group 61 (MAG-61) was a United States Marine Corps aviation unit that served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The group played a critical role in providing air support for amphibious operations, including the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. MAG-61's aircraft, including dive bombers and fighter planes, helped secure victories by attacking enemy positions, providing close air support, and participating in strategic bombing missions.

Abstract

The Lawrence H. W. Schain Papers contain two scrapbooks created by Schain during his military service, photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, and bound books. This collection also contains black-and-white scans of Robert Sherrod's book "Marine Corps Aviation in World War II". Schain collected these materials during his service with the United States Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War.
