Biography
Staff Sergeant Lawrence “Larry” H. W. Schain was born on December 13, 1917, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. On August 25, 1942, Schain entered the United States Marine Corps at the rank of private and completed the Aviation Radioman course at the Navy Department, Bureau of Naval Personnel Service School in April 1943. Schain was discharged from the United States Marine Corps on February 13, 1946, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves – 3B on August 17, 1947. On October 7, 1950, Schain was recalled to active duty to fight in the Korean War. Schain died on September 4, 1996, and is buried in the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

Lawrence H. W. Schain Papers
The Lawrence H. W. Schain Papers contain two scrapbooks created by Schain during his military service, photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, and bound books. This collection also contains black-and-white scans of Robert Sherrod's book "Marine Corps Aviation in World War II". Schain collected these materials during his service with the United States Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War.
