Biography
Chester W. Nimitz Jr., born on February 17, 1915, in Brooklyn, New York, was the son of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and following in his father's footsteps by serving in the U.S. Navy. During World War II, he served on submarines, including as Executive Officer of the USS Bluefish and Commanding Officer of the USS Haddo, earning a Silver Star and Navy Cross for his heroic actions. After his naval career, which ended at the rank of Rear Admiral, Nimitz Jr. had a successful career in the private sector, serving as president of Perkin-Elmer Corporation until his retirement in 1980.
