Special Training Unit of the Armored Replacement Training Center, 1941-1943: A Resume of Problems Encountered, 1964
Scope and Contents
This sub-series documents the creation, administration, and evaluation of Special Training Units at the Armored Replacement Training Center. The records include formal reports on the development, scope, organization, and instructional philosophy of the STU program; analyses of classification procedures; and materials describing the integration of psychiatric services and orientation programs. Extensive documentation from the 19th Battalion STU includes personnel case studies, demographic data, organizational charts, training plans, evaluation tools, and administrative correspondence related to the management of substandard or special-needs trainees. Additional materials include orders, memoranda, separation procedures, Red Cross reports, literacy and arithmetic training booklets, instructor manuals, and lectures by Col. Robert E. Byrns. The sub-series also contains standard operating procedures, training directives, weekly schedules, field sanitation guidelines, and role-specific responsibility guides for various company-level positions. Collectively, these materials offer a detailed view of the STU’s academic, physical, disciplinary, and rehabilitative training efforts during the 1941–1943 period.
