B-29 Aerial Reconnaissance Photographs of Japan, 1945
Scope and Contents
This folder contains aerial reconnaissance photographs of Japan, taken from B-29 aircraft during World War II. The photographs document bombing targets, post-strike assessments, and urban damage in locations including Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kawasaki, Yokkaichi, and other industrial centers. Visible features include factories, military installations, transportation networks, ports, rivers, and urban infrastructure, often accompanied by mission annotations, target markings, map keys, and directional indicators. Together, the photographs provide evidence of strategic bombing operations and the use of aerial imagery for target identification and bomb damage assessment during the war's final months.
