Scope and Contents

The Clifford Baird Collection houses materials from 1st Lieutenant Clifford R. Baird’s military career, spanning from 1941 to 1993. It includes various items, including orders, military files, patches, postcards, photographs from wartime, programs, and newspaper clippings. The majority of the collection pertains to Clifford Baird’s military service from 1941 to 1953, featuring his personal military files, patches, and stickers from the 5th Air Force, a Christmas edition of Sea Devil News, photographs capturing his time at Fort Sam Houston and wartime travels, a selection of postcards, regular and special orders he received, a 1949 vaccination certification card, and numerous newspaper clippings. Additionally, the collection includes materials from the period of 1983 to 1993, such as reunion programs from the 13th Bomb Squadron in 1983-1984 and a funeral pamphlet from his service in 1993.

Biographical / Historical

Clifford Russell Baird, 1912-1993, retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force in 1953, concluding a 22-year career. Subsequently, in 1960, he earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant as part of the retired Air Force Reserves.

During World War II, Clifford Baird served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and was a member of the 13th Bombardment Squadron stationed in New Guinea, where he piloted B-25 aircraft.
