Scope and Contents

The Jake Jenkins Papers contain booklets, postcards, and photographs from Jenkins’s time serving in World War II. This collection also contains documents regarding Jenkins’s separation from the United States Army Air Force. The booklets within the collection are field and technical manuals issued by the U.S. military, as well as guides for soldiers. The postcards and photographs featured in the collection are from Jenkins's travels in the Air Force, particularly from training in California, Michigan, and Texas. The documents regarding Jenkins’s separation from the U.S. armed forces include notes from President Truman, Veterans Affairs, and information on officiation.

Biographical / Historical

Jake Jenkins (1923-1992) was a radio operator with the 326th Search Light Battalion during World War II. Jenkins was drafted into the Air Force in 1943 and was discharged in 1946. Following the war, Jenkins attended the University of Arkansas on the GI Bill and was a distinguished graduate of its ROTC program. After Arkansas, Jenkins was commissioned back into the Air Force and would remain in service for the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
