Biographical / Historical

Captain Roy “Doc” Tashnek (December 16, 1919 – July 23, 2021) was born in Houston, Texas. He studied chemical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin for one year before studying commerce and pre-dentistry at Louisiana State University for three years.

In 1942, Capt. Tashnek served as an ensign in the United States Naval Reserve until he completed his studies at the University of Texas School of Dentistry and was commissioned into the U.S. Army on December 12, 1943.

On January 7, 1944, Capt. Tashnek was deployed to Saipan in the Mariana Islands, where he served as a dental officer. He held the rank of First Lieutenant until he was promoted to Captain on July 25, 1945. Capt. Tashnek was relieved from duty on November 3, 1946, at the Separation Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

After returning to his hometown, Capt. Tashnek started a dental practice and continued to serve his community with his dental expertise.
