Scope and Contents
This folder contains three published magazines, documents, and guides gathered by Richard W. Ziegler. These publications include Leatherneck's Volume LXVIII Issue Number 6, “The Story of the Marine Skytillerymen,” and a booklet titled “Tinian Then and Now…” detailing Tinian’s history during World War II.
Volume LXVIII Issue Number 6 of the Magazine of the Marines, Leatherneck, from June 1985. This issue of the magazine of the Marines features articles, features, and departments aimed at entertaining and informing United States Marines. One of these articles, “One Of A Kind” describes the 2nd Airdrome Battalion and its history working throughout the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
“The Story of the Marine Skytillerymen” – Tells the story of the 2nd Marines Airdrome Battalion from its formation in October 1942, the battalion's service in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre to its eventual return home after the end of the war. Additionally, this folder features a cartoon illustration of a bulldog created by Walt Disney in 1943 for the 2nd Marine Airdrome Battalion as their official emblem and a black-and-white photograph of thirteen (13) men posed together.
“Tinian Then and Now…” - A booklet that provides the reader with a portrayal and record of Tinian’s history during the Second World War by comparing photographs taken during the war to photographs taken in 1990.
