Scope and Contents
The Joseph A. Storenski Collection, 1945-1998, consists of scrapbook pages covered with photographs collected initially by Mr. Storenski during his military service with the Army Air Force. Photographs included in this scrapbook feature images of Japanese and American aircraft, american bomber nose art, soldiers training at several bases, Sherman and M2 tanks, exhibits from a Japanese naval museum, foreign government buildings, and photos taken during the American occupation of Leyte, the Philippines, and Japan. Additional photographs included in this collection focus on the Japanese surrender on board the USS Missouri. This collection also includes a newspaper clipping that focuses on the USS Missouri’s renovation and journey to Hawaii to serve as museum pieces and a military form that identifies the awards and medals Mr. Storenski earned during his military service.

Biographical / Historical
Joseph Ambrose Storenski was born on September 2, 1924, in Houston, Texas, to Stanislaus Albert Storenski and Anna Hedwiga Lero. On October 27, 1942, he joined the United States Army Air Force at the rank of private. He was honorably discharged from service on February 22, 1946, having obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He received notable medals and awards, including the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal with a Japan Clasp, the Good Conduct Medal with the Air Force, the Good Conduct Medal with the Army, the Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. After his discharge, he worked at Borden’s for 38 years before his retirement. Storenski died at the age of 65 on February 3, 1990 in Houston, Texas.

The Joseph A. Storenski collection contains three legal-size folders housed in an archival-size box totaling 0.2 linear feet. Due to its size, this collection has not been intellectually separated into series.
