Scope and Contents From the Collection:

The Stephen C. Hoyle Collection is a collection of papers contained within a single series detailing the personal materials related to Mr. Hoyle’s service with the United States Coast Guard during World War II. This collection contains the following materials: a 1944 Thanksgiving menu, Mr. Hoyle’s United States Coast Guard Service Card, certifications, and a group photograph of Company 36 Platoon 1. This collection is housed within a single box totaling 0.1 linear feet.

Features a two-page black and white photograph of the Antarctica expedition in 1946-1947 with the U.S.S. Merrick, Lieutenant Commander E. M. Doran, and Captain J. J. Houri Han. Color magazine, 575 pages.

A bookmark has been placed between pages 54-55 at the start of an article, “Those Mysterious Midgets” by Lieutenant Commander A. J. Stewart, U.S. Navy. 129 total pages, color cover, black-and-white printing.

Contains two photographs of Edward M. Doran and his military identification card while serving in the United States Navy. Dimensions – 8.5cm x 6.5cm and 11.5cm x 8.5cm. The rear of the photograph 2005.672.005 reads, “Eddie Doran CPO USN Submarine Base Pearl Harbor TH 1938”.

Scope and Contents Contains one black-and-white photograph, 20.5 x 25.3 cm, of the Japanese surrendering on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo, Japan. 1945. The reverse has handwritten notes that reads,“Japanese surrender on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo, Japan, 1945. USS West Virginia BB-48 was present and should have been the ship used since it was sunk at Pearl Harbor and raised to fight again. / Note: Truman, president of the state of Missouri, was president then! / Columbus, Ohio / LT.
